Outdoor Leadership Trip

MTRS students participated (many for the first time!) in an outdoor top-rope rock climbing trip at Chapel Ledge in Ashfield. The trip was facilitated by certified instructors from the Outdoor Leadership Program at Greenfield Community College, and it was organized by MTRS counselors. Students chose from six climbs, some had the chance to learn belaying, and others participated in rappelling.

The MTRS Garden Club has Started!

A mix of middle and high school students volunteered to help Mrs. Woof clean up the courtyard gardens this week. Five beds were weeded and mulched with straw, leaves and dead grass were racked up and removed, bedstraw and oriental bittersweet were removed, old wood around one garden was removed and replaced with cinder blocks and lastly we installed a wheelchair ramp so all our students can enjoy the beautiful space. This group will continue to maintain the space for the remainder of the school year. Next year we hope to add a raised bed that a wheelchair can reach.

Reach out to Mrs. Woof if you want to find out how you can get involved.

Spring Concert Review

The MTRS Spring Concert took place on Thursday, April 17 and opened with the middle school band playing selections from Aladdin, and the “Circle of Life” from the Lion King. Concert go-ers heard from the middle school chorus twice with selections such as “Imagination” from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, “Vision of Peace” which included American Sign Language, and “Colors of the Wind” from the movie Pocahontas. “Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around” closed the concert, which was an African American spiritual piece used in the civil rights movement.

The Survey, the Jam Band, Galactic Guitar Duo and soloists senior Eliza Crowell and 8th grade student Wren Topitzer added creative flair and expression to the evening. Bravo!

  • The week of May 5 through May 9, take portraits with your cap and gown. They are already here!
  • On May 27, portraits arrive and are hung outside auditorium.
  • On May 30, students take home portraits after graduation.
MTAA Golf Tournament Returning After Long Hiatus

The Mohawk Trail Athletic Association is proud to announce the return of their Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser this summer! The tournament will take place on July 19 at the Ashfield Community Golf Course. The format will be a four-member scramble with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start! The event will include raffles, longest drive, and closest to the pin competitions, as well as a chicken barbeque. The cost to participate will be $400 per team, which includes the dinner! All proceeds benefit Mohawk Trail Athletics as well as the numerous scholarships they offer to Warrior athletes. Please reach out to Mohawk Trail Athletic Director Greg Lilly for more information.

Blood and Guts

On March 24, eight students traveled to Baystate Franklin Medical Center for the Annual "Blood and Guts" Career exploration event. Students had the opportunity to rotate through respiratory therapy, HR, pharmacy, obstetrics, surgery, and more to gain first-hand exposure to careers in the medical field.

Baystate is offering a new Ask Me! Program this summer for students ages 14 and 15 and has the Explorer's program for students 16 and over. Flyers are available in student services.

Senior Capstone Projects

This year’s senior class is gearing up to begin their Capstone projects, which are happening in the spring semester this year. We are excited to roll out this scheduling shift, as it allowed students to get through the bulk of the college and scholarship application season without the added layer of Capstone. Additionally, holding Capstone in the spring gave students an opportunity to set up internships, start their projects early through independent study, and do background research during supported advisory sessions. This year’s senior class is bubbling with great Capstone ideas and they are poised to launch their projects right at the beginning of the semester.

Mark your calendars! This year’s formative presentations will be on March 20 and 21, summative presentations will be on May 15 and 16, and seniors will showcase their projects for the public during our Pathways event before senior awards on May 29.

Interested in being involved in Capstone? Students are responsible for finding experts in their chosen field and inviting community members to sit on their panels, but we are always happy to expand our network and help students make connections. Please visit the Capstone website for more information, and email Capstone coordinator Rachel Hoogstraten if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
